I am having a lot of problems with the installation and running of anti-viral programs. I installed Microsoft Security essentials, and it works well until it rejected an update.

I had considerable difficulty in removing the program from the computer. Both the original uninstall and revo programs failed to do that. When I tried to reinstall Security essentials, it would tell me that I already had it installed and I must remove it. Again, neither of the uninstall programs worked. Even revo couldn't find the program at all.

It would appear that certain programs including the system, will allow a certain number of updates and then reject them and have to be uninstalled/and re-installed to starting again.

Has anybody had similar experiences and if so what was the solution. Any help gladly received.

Any feedback or relevant info most welcome. This problem has been bugging me for quite a while.

I once had an issue similar to this, but I don't know if it applies to you. I tried removing AVG once on my system so that I could go back to using eset, but the uninstall for AVG kept failing.

I don't remember exactly, but I believe it had something to do with the fact that both eset and AVG were both installed at the same time, despite esets live protection being disabled. I just reformatted the system.

I finally gave in and bought Revo uninstaller Pro for £34. Even that could not find the bits of the Comodo and Security Essentials which were giving me problems. I finally got Comodo to re-instal. The maddening thing is, I do not know what I did that sorted it out.

I am not totally experienced with the software either but have you tried these steps?

This may be an odd question but....despite your uninstall troubles, do you like the app? I'm looking for a good solution to offer my clients when they're seeking easy security solutions

i switched recently from norton to kapersky- apparently he is some mathmatical nut job in Russia somewhere and all he does is write algorithms all day long. Supposed to be top of the line.

Yes, I likedthe results well enough and it seemed to protect well. It was just that re-installing was dependent on having got rid of the existing one, first.

Frankly anything is better than Norton.....

As I just heard on another forums, the only useful piece of software Symantec make is the removal tool!
